Sticking to the speed limit could be easier than ever thanks to new technology in Google Maps.

Google has confirmed it will soon be rolling out an update to its Maps app that informs motorists of the speed limit for the road they’re travelling on as well as alert them of any speed camera positions.

Speed limits will be displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen and change according to the road, in an update that could also include locations of speed cameras plotted on their route ahead.

The update has already been rolled out in the US and, according to reports, will hit the UK soon.

Although many vehicles come with their own sat nav systems installed as standard, Google Maps remains one of the most popular services for motorists.

The new update could see the app retain its popularity, as it gives drivers more confidence when on unfamiliar roads with constantly changing speed limits.

Drivers should never rely on Google or any other app for speed camera locations, but the update could help keep the roads safer and ensure that motorists stay on the right side of the law.
